Police Investigate Multi-Vehicle Crash on Highway 299 in Humboldt County
HUMBOLDT COUNTY, CA (September 23, 2026)— One driver sustained injuries in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 299 involving a semi-truck and a trailer carrying mules
Authorities received reports of the collision at approximately 5:44 p.m. near mile marker 19.10, according to the California Highway Patrol traffic log.
Preliminary reports indicated that a trailer carrying mules overturned during the collision. The CHP log also described a semi truck and several other vehicles at the scene, although early reports contained conflicting information about the total number of vehicles involved.
Initial entries identified an older Toyota Camry, a Nissan Rogue, a Dodge, and a semi truck, but authorities had not confirmed those vehicle descriptions.
Emergency dispatchers initially reported smoke and fuel leaking from the semi truck. Fuel reportedly spread across the roadway, while two propane tanks were also said to be leaking.
The semi driver became trapped inside the vehicle following the collision. Emergency personnel later freed the driver, and an ambulance transported the motorist to a hospital at approximately 6:48 p.m.
Authorities did not immediately disclose the extent of the driver’s injuries.
Blue Lake Fire personnel were at the scene by approximately 6:15 p.m.
The condition of the mules remained unknown in the initial reports.
The crash blocked traffic and caused backups in both directions on Highway 299. By 8:07 p.m., video provided by a motorist showed two vehicles being towed from the crash scene.
Motorists were advised to expect delays while emergency personnel cleared the roadway and addressed the hazardous material concerns.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Injured in a Northern California truck or highway crash? Sweet Lawyers can help you understand the legal options after a serious collision.
Crashes involving large commercial trucks can create especially dangerous conditions for motorists, particularly when fuel, propane, overturned trailers, or multiple vehicles are involved.
We hope the semi driver transported to the hospital after this Highway 299 collision makes a full recovery and that everyone else involved escaped serious injury.
Truck accidents can be significantly more complex than ordinary passenger-vehicle collisions. The size and weight of a commercial truck can increase the force of an impact, while cargo, trailers, mechanical equipment, hazardous materials, and roadway obstructions can create additional risks for drivers and emergency responders.
When a multi-vehicle collision occurs, investigators may review numerous factors to determine how the crash developed. These can include driver actions, vehicle speed, braking distances, roadway conditions, mechanical issues, cargo securement, visibility, and the sequence in which the vehicles collided.
Commercial trucking records and vehicle inspection information may also become relevant depending on the circumstances.
At Sweet Lawyers, we understand that the aftermath of a serious truck accident can leave injured people facing medical treatment, vehicle damage, lost income, insurance questions, and uncertainty about their recovery.
Our team approaches these situations with compassion and professionalism while helping accident victims better understand the personal injury process.
Those affected by a serious collision may find it helpful to preserve medical records, photographs, witness information, repair estimates, insurance correspondence, and any available police or crash reports.

Every accident involves unique facts, and no specific result can be guaranteed.
However, having an experienced personal injury attorney review the available evidence can help injured motorists understand potential issues involving responsibility, insurance coverage, medical expenses, and other accident-related losses.
