Police Investigate 4-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 40 in Albuquerque

Albuquerque, NM (August 4, 2025) – Police responded to a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 40.

Just before 4:00 p.m., a crash occurred on westbound I-40 near Carlisle, involving at least four vehicles, according to initial reports. The collision closed the three right lanes and the shoulder.

Emergency crews from Albuquerque Fire Rescue and Albuquerque Ambulance Services arrived at the scene shortly after the crash. 

The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) reported through traffic cameras that two vehicles sustained significant damage. 

The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office initially responded to the incident.

Authorities urged drivers to proceed with caution and watch for emergency personnel working in the roadway to assist victims and manage traffic.

By 5:03 p.m., the crash continued to affect lanes of traffic. Crews moved some vehicles to the far right lanes, but NM DOT/NMROADS dynamic signs still showed the three right lanes closed. 

A flatbed wrecker arrived to remove one of the disabled cars.

By 6:00 p.m., NMDOT cameras and dynamic signs confirmed that crews had cleared the crash and reopened all lanes.
