Multi-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 5 Kills Woman [Fresno County, CA]

Fresno County, CA (June 20, 2025) — On Wednesday, a woman lost her life and two others suffered injuries following a chain-reaction crash on Interstate 5 involving a tractor-trailer and three passenger vehicles.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened around noon Wednesday in the southbound lanes of I-5 north of Jayne Avenue. Investigators said a 2025 Freightliner tractor-trailer approached stopped traffic at an unsafe speed and was unable to stop in time.

The truck driver attempted to brake and steer away but collided with a 2022 Mazda CX-5. The impact pushed the Mazda into a 2016 Toyota Tundra, which then traveled into the center median and became disabled. The Freightliner continued forward and struck the rear of a 2024 Mercedes E350 before jackknifing and coming to rest partially blocking the interstate.

A rear-seat passenger in the Mazda suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to Saint Agnes Medical Center in Fresno. Authorities later confirmed that she died from her injuries.

Two rear passengers in the Mercedes sustained minor to moderate injuries and were transported to Adventist Health Hanford for treatment.

Officials have not yet released the identities of those involved. The crash remains under investigation.
