According to authorities, the frightening collision happened around 1:53 p.m. on State Highway 29 bridge over Interstate 35

Reports say that an 18-wheeler hauling an oversized excavator struck the bridge over I-35 and sparked a multi-vehicle crash.

Investigators said the semi was traveling southbound when it hit the overpass, damaging the bridge and involving five additional vehicles.

Emergency crews transported two people to the hospital, with one victim remaining in critical but stable condition as of Wednesday evening.

Officials confirmed the truck exceeded the height permitted under its Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) permit. The excavator measured more than 18 feet, far taller than the posted clearance.

The crash closed the SH 29 overpass for nearly 15 hours. TxDOT later reopened the bridge but kept one lane blocked while crews inspected the damage. Authorities confirmed some beams will need permanent repairs.

The driver, a 61-year-old man from Jonestown with a valid commercial license, has not been charged. Georgetown police continue to investigate.
