Police Investigate Crash on Dillon Road Closes Northbound SR 86 in Coachella

COACHELLA, CA (June 11, 2026)— A multi-vehicle crash on Dillon Road involving two semi-trucks and a Ford Crown Victoria closed northbound lanes of State Route 86 in Coachella early Thursday morning.

According to the Riverside County Fire Department, the crash was reported shortly before 4 a.m. south of the Dillon Road on-ramp.

When crews arrived, they found one semi-truck on its side and a vehicle fully engulfed in flames.

The California Highway Patrol said one semi-truck was traveling north, north of 50th Avenue, when it rear-ended another semi-truck. After both big rigs stopped, a Ford Crown Victoria crashed into one of the semis.

Authorities said the two semi-trucks caught fire after the collision.

All occupants of the three vehicles were able to get out on their own. Officials said the occupants complained of pain, but no drivers were transported to a hospital.

The crash prompted a closure of the northbound lanes while emergency crews responded and cleared the scene. CHP said the No. 1 lane reopened around 10:41 a.m.

Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the crash.

The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate.
