Police Investigate Crash on Highway 299 West of Glendale

GLENDALE, CA (June 16, 2026)— Multiple people suffered injuries in a crash on Highway 299 after a Prius van carrying several occupants left the highway and went over an embankment west of Glendale on Sunday afternoon, according to emergency dispatch records and scanner traffic.

The crash was reported at about 3:41 p.m. near mile marker 2.5 on westbound Highway 299.

Initial California Highway Patrol dispatch information indicated that the vehicle spun out, left the roadway, and came to rest off the right-hand side of the highway.

Dispatchers noted that the vehicle was not visible from the road.

Several passing motorists stopped at the scene before emergency crews arrived.

Scanner traffic identified the vehicle as a red Prius van carrying multiple occupants. Early reports referenced eight patients, while later scanner traffic indicated that nine people were involved.

Responders initially reported that one person had lost consciousness.

Emergency crews arrived and began triaging patients at the crash site.

Responders requested additional ambulances and extra CHP units for traffic control because the crash occurred on a blind curve.

Scanner reports later indicated that emergency personnel categorized the injured patients as two critical, five moderate, and two minor.

Responders requested a fourth ambulance as crews continued treating and transporting patients. Scanner traffic indicated that two critically injured patients were loaded into the first ambulance.

One critically injured patient was reportedly a 17-year-old who was unrestrained during the crash and suffered loss of consciousness, lacerations to the left forearm, and head and neck pain.

Another 17-year-old male patient was reportedly conscious and oriented. Scanner traffic also suggested one teen had been sitting on the lap of another passenger.

Additional patients included a male passenger with neck pain and altered mental status and a 32-year-old male driver who complained of left ankle and shin pain.

Caltrans later closed the No. 2 lane while emergency crews and investigators worked at the scene.

CHP later classified the crash as a major injury accident.

The cause remains under investigation.
