Navin Sharma Kumar Arrested in Frightening Crash on River Road [Oakdale, CA]

Oakdale, CA (November 28, 2025) — Early Thursday, 2 people were hurt ad hospitalized after a head-on crash on River Road that led to the arrest of Navin Sharma Kumar.

According to the California Highway Patrol’s Modesto division, the crash happened shortly after midnight on River Road near Cleveland Avenue.

Investigators say a westbound Mercedes lost control, veered off the roadway, overcorrected, and crossed the center divider before hitting another vehicle head-on.

Both cars ended up in a nearby orchard, and one of them struck a tree. Fire crews reported heavy damage to both vehicles.

Two family members in the second vehicle sustained major injuries and were rushed to a hospital.

CHP says the Mercedes driver, identified as Kumar, fled on foot before officers arrived. Authorities later found and arrested him. He was booked into county jail on suspicion of felony DUI, felony hit-and-run, and driving with a suspended license. Police also discovered he had an outstanding warrant.

The investigation remains ongoing.
