Nazario Lopez Bustos Involved in Deadly Accident on Lake Road [Stanislaus County, CA]

Stanislaus County, CA (December 3, 2025) – Nazario Lopez Bustos, 70, of Atwater, was involved in a deadly accident on Lake Road early Monday morning.

It was before 5 a.m. when the deadly crash happened east of Meier Road in Hickman.

Responding officers located a Chevrolet SUV with front-end damage and a pedestrian, a 39-year-old Modesto man, with major injuries. The pedestrian was declared dead at the scene. 

Investigators said Bustos was driving an eastbound 2014 Chevrolet SUV when he noticed the pedestrian walking in the same lane, in front of the vehicle. 

Bustos turned left to avoid the pedestrian, but the man also moved to the left. The pedestrian was then hit by the SUV with its right front end. 

Officers said Bustos was wearing a seat belt during the crash and was not suspected of driving under the influence.

Troopers are conducting a further investigation into this accident.
