Former NFL Player D.J. Hayden and Others Killed in Fannin Street Collision [Houston, TX]

Houston, TX (November 12, 2023) – Former NFL Players, UH cornerback and former Raiders first-round draft pick D.J. Hayden, UH defensive back Zach McMillan, and UH offensive lineman Ralph Oragwu, died in a Fannin Street collision Saturday morning.

The authorities responded to the crash scene at around 2 a.m. in the 2000 block area near Pierce Street.

Investigating officers said a black Chrysler 300 sedan was southbound on Fannin Street when it crashed with a black Acura SUV traveling east on Pierce Street.

HPD Assistant Chief M. Howard stated, “The eastbound vehicle on Pierce had the right of way, had a stale green light, and the other vehicle ran a red light, appears to be going very fast, high velocity.”

The impact of the collision ejected several people from the vehicles. 

The Chrysler left the roadway and went onto a sidewalk.

Five men and a woman died due to the crash. Four of them were declared dead at the scene while the two others were declared dead at the hospital.

Moreover, a man and a woman who sustained serious and life-threatening injuries were taken to the hospital.

Officers said that the man was in the SUV during the collision. The authorities are questioning him about the accident. 

Investigating officers said that the Chrysler driver was included in those who were declared dead at the scene.

Similarly, a homeless man also died in this collision.

Officers said they do not know yet who was driving the SUV.

Officers are still investigating.
