Nicholas Bertell Arrested in Suspected DUI Crash on Fairway Drive [Eureka, CA]

Driver Injured in Fairway Drive Head-On Crash in Eureka

Eureka, CA (September 26, 2026) — On Thursday, a driver suffered minor to moderate injuries after a head-on crash on Fairway Drive involving Nicholas Bertell.

Eureka police responded to the 4700 block of Fairway Drive at about 4:20 p.m. after a white Toyota Tacoma and a gray Nissan Altima collided. The Nissan driver sustained injuries and went to a local hospital for medical evaluation.

Police also contacted 46-year-old Nicholas Bertell of Bayside, who was driving the Toyota. Investigators determined that he had been driving under the influence of alcohol and arrested him on suspicion of felony DUI causing injury and driving with a blood alcohol concentration of at least 0.08%.

Bertell also received medical treatment for injuries before authorities booked him into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility.

Avoiding auto accidents involves paying attention and practicing safe driving methods. And as always, you should follow the speed and traffic laws, and don’t text (or use your phone in any way) behind the wheel.

Keep a safe trailing distance to be able to stop, if necessary.

Do not drink and drive, and never get behind the wheel if you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or if you are tired.

Watch your mirrors and use your turn signals, and check your blind spots before changing lanes or making a turn. Drive calmly and patiently, especially in heavy traffic or bad weather.

When you drive responsibly and remain alert, you help prevent accidents and keep everyone on the road safe.

If you’re driving through busy corridors or high-speed roads, stay alert and give yourself plenty of space to react. Safe driving choices can prevent life-changing injuries. Stay cautious and look out for others on the road.

Never drive after drinking or using drugs. Arrange for a sober driver, rideshare, taxi, or another safe way home before getting behind the wheel.

File a Personal Injury Claim in Case of a Traffic Accident

A personal injury claim following a traffic collision is a legal process that allows an injured party to seek compensation for physical, emotional, and financial harm caused by the accident. These claims arise when a driver’s negligence, recklessness, or intentional actions lead to an accident resulting in injuries.

The first step in pursuing a personal injury claim is to establish fault. This normally involves gathering evidence such as police reports, witness statements, traffic camera footage, and photographs of the accident scene. A skilled attorney from Sweet Lawyers can help establish who was responsible for the accident, which is indeed necessary for determining liability.

Once fault is established, the injured party can then pursue compensation for damages, which may include but are not limited to medical expenses, lost wages, property damage, and pain and suffering. Consequently, medical documentation and expert testimony are essential for proving the extent of the injuries and their impact on the victim’s life.

Meanwhile, it’s important to note that the statute of limitations, or the time frame within which a personal injury claim must be filed, varies by state. Meaning if a claim is not filed within this window, the victim and the victim’s family may lose the right to seek compensation.

A personal injury claim in case of a traffic collision can be complex, but it offers an essential avenue that helps the victims to recover damages and hold negligent drivers accountable.

Consult with Sweet Lawyers’ personal injury attorneys and let us get the maximum compensation for you.
