Police Investigate Major Crash on State Route 20 Involving Semi-Truck and Box Truck in Williams

WILLIAMS, CA (December 11, 2025) — One person sustained serious injuries in a crash on State Route 20.

A major-injury collision involving a semi-truck and a box truck shut down both lanes of State Route 20 for several hours Wednesday morning, just east of State Route 16, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The crash was first reported around 6:40 a.m. after an Apple device triggered an SOS alert. 

Responding units confirmed a head-on collision involving two large commercial vehicles. 

One of the trucks was hauling approximately 15,000 pounds of lumber, which added complexity to the recovery efforts.

CHP officials reported that one person suffered major injuries and another sustained minor injuries. 

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene to render aid and coordinate cleanup efforts.

Due to the size and damage of the trucks, heavy wreckers were called in. By 8:00 a.m., authorities had reduced SR-20 to one-way traffic to allow for vehicle removal and road clearing.

The California Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the cause of the collision.
