1 Injured in Fatal Head-On Crash on State Highway 289 in Gunter
GUNTER, TX (December 11, 2025) — A deadly head-on crash on State Highway 289 shut down traffic Wednesday morning and left one person dead and another seriously injured.
According to Gunter Police, the collision occurred between West Elm Street and Foy Wallace Road. Emergency crews from Gunter Volunteer Fire and Rescue responded to the scene shortly after the incident.
Due to the severity of the injuries, firefighters called for an air ambulance to transport one individual to a nearby hospital.
The other driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased.
Both vehicles involved in the crash were occupied solely by their respective drivers—no passengers were present in either car.
Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
The Gunter Police Department is working alongside the Texas Department of Public Safety, which used drones and other forensic tools to document the crash scene.
By 11:50 a.m., the highway was reopened to traffic.
