Oscar Gomez Florez Arrested in Monte Diablo Avenue Crash [San Francisco, CA]

Scooter Rider Injured in San Mateo Hit-and-Run; Airport Employee Arrested

San Francisco, CA (March 17, 2026) — A man riding an electric scooter suffered a head injury after Oscar Gomez Florez struck him and fled the scene Sunday afternoon in San Mateo.

The crash happened around 12:48 p.m. on Monte Diablo Avenue near North San Mateo Drive. Authorities said the victim was riding an electric scooter without a helmet when a vehicle hit him, leaving him with a serious head laceration. Florez failed to stop and drove away, leaving the injured rider behind.

Investigators from the San Mateo Police Department canvassed the area and reviewed nearby security camera footage. The video helped officers identify the suspect vehicle and its license plate, which led them to Florez.

Police later located the vehicle in an employee parking lot at San Francisco International Airport, where Florez worked. Officers arrested him at the airport on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and booked him into the San Mateo County Jail.

The injured scooter rider received treatment for a four-inch head laceration. Authorities continue to remind both drivers and riders to follow safety rules and remain alert to prevent similar incidents.

Do The Right Thing. Stay. Help. Take Responsibility.

A hit-and-run is not just a crime, but a devastating act of cowardice leaving victims injured, scared, and sometimes fighting for their lives. If you’re involved in a traffic accident, stop immediately. Call 911. Help those who are hurt.

Remember that fleeing the scene only worsens the situation and carries serious legal consequences, including felony charges. Victims deserve accountability and justice.

Hit-and-run crashes leave victims vulnerable and delay critical medical help. Drivers must always stop after a collision, provide assistance, and exchange information. For riders, wearing protective gear such as helmets can significantly reduce the severity of injuries in the event of a crash.
