Passenger Injured in Solo-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 80 [Bay Bridge, CA]

Bay Bridge, CA (June 22, 2025) — A woman died, and her passenger suffered serious injuries after a solo-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 early Saturday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened shortly after 4 a.m. on eastbound Interstate 80 near the Treasure Island off-ramp.

Investigators said a black Kia sedan traveling in the far-left lane suddenly veered onto the left shoulder and struck an unoccupied Caltrans maintenance vehicle that was parked while workers performed roadside work nearby.

The female driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released her identity pending notification of her family. The passenger sustained severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Officials have not provided an update on the passenger’s condition.

A dog riding in the Kia was also injured and was taken into the care of Alameda County Animal Control.

The crash forced the closure of all eastbound lanes on the Bay Bridge for several hours before reopening shortly before 8 a.m. Investigators continue to examine the cause of the collision, including whether alcohol or drugs played a role.
