Driver Injured in Fatal Head-On Crash on FM-485 in Meeks

MEEKS, TX – A tragic two-vehicle crash on FM-485 near the Bell County/Milam County line on Thursday afternoon has left one person dead and another hospitalized with injuries.

The crash occurred around 12:00 p.m. on FM-485 near Falls Road in the community of Meeks. 

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), a northbound Cadillac SRX attempted to pass another vehicle in a clearly marked no-passing zone. 

During the maneuver, the Cadillac collided head-on with an oncoming truck tractor semi-trailer.

The force of the crash caused the Cadillac to overturn, ejecting both the driver and the passenger. 

Emergency responders pronounced the passenger dead at the scene. 

The driver was transported to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased, pending notification of next of kin. 

DPS confirms that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
