Frightening Pedestrian Accident on East Shelby Street Kills Unhoused Man [Seattle, WA]

Seattle, WA (October 30, 2025) — Early Tuesday morning, a homeless man died after a frightening accident on East Shelby Street.

According to the Seattle Police Department (SPD), the fatal incident happened around 6:05 a.m. near East Shelby Street and the 2800 block of Eastlake Avenue East.

Reports say that the unhoused man was accidentally run over by a yard waste and recycling truck in Seattle’s Eastlake neighborhood.

Investigators determined the man had been lying near garbage and recycling dumpsters on a dead-end street when the Cedar Grove truck struck him.

Seattle Fire Department medics responded but were unable to save the man. Police confirmed that the driver showed no signs of impairment after evaluation. The King County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the victim’s identity and official cause of death.
