According to authorities, the incident happened around 7:14 p.m. near Road 3 North and Voss Drive.

Investigators reported that a 2002 Toyota Highlander struck a pedestrian who was walking in the roadway. The victim suffered severe injuries and was initially taken to a local hospital before being airlifted to a Phoenix-area medical facility.

Authorities believe prescription drugs may have played a role in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
