ESCONDIDO, CA (September 24, 2026) – Monday night, a 47-year-old man died in a devastating pedestrian crash on Centre City Parkway near Ninth Avenue.

The incident occurred around 7:45 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Centre City Parkway near Ninth Avenue, the Escondido Police Department said.

According to reports, the 47-year-old man stepped into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

A bystander provided medical aid to the victim before he was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly afterward, the department said.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Police said drugs, alcohol and speed were not considered factors in the collision.

Investigators closed Centre City Parkway for about four hours while they examined the scene.
