Pedestrian Killed After Being Struck by SUV on Highway 101 in Redwood City

Redwood City, CA (June 22, 2025) — A pedestrian died after a traffic crash on Highway 101 near Whipple Road in Redwood City early Saturday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened at approximately 4:42 a.m. A preliminary investigation found that the pedestrian had been walking and running in the traffic lanes before a Mazda SUV traveling in the left lane hit the individual.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Mazda was not injured.

The collision prompted the closure of all northbound lanes of Highway 101 for about an hour while investigators processed the scene. The roadway has since reopened.
