Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck on I-10 in El Paso

El Paso, TX (August 29, 2026) — A pedestrian died Wednesday night after a horrific crash on Interstate 10 near Lee Trevino Drive in El Paso, Texas.

The crash happened around 9:12 p.m. on August 26. According to the El Paso Police Department, a white 2023 GMC Sierra was traveling westbound when the 34-year-old driver encountered a pedestrian lying in the roadway. The driver could not avoid the collision, and the pedestrian suffered fatal injuries.

Police initially described the incident as a crash involving a semi-truck and a pedestrian but later clarified that a pickup truck struck the pedestrian. Authorities have not released the pedestrian’s identity.

Investigators identified the pedestrian’s presence in the roadway as a preliminary contributing factor but continue to examine why the person was on the interstate.

The crash temporarily closed westbound lanes, which reopened Thursday morning. The Special Traffic Investigations Unit continues to investigate.
