Disastrous Pedestrian Crash on North Interstate 27

Injuries Reported in Lubbock Pedestrian Accident on North Interstate 27 near Preston Smith Airport

LUBBOCK, TX (June 7, 2026) – Saturday morning, a man sustained injuries in a disastrous pedestrian crash on North Interstate 27 near Preston Smith Airport.

The incident involving a police car and a pedestrian happened at 5:01 p.m. in the 7000 block of North Interstate 27 southbound access road.

Officers were responding to a business near Preston Smith Airport after receiving a report of an intoxicated man who was allegedly bothering employees.

As officers approached the area, one of their vehicles struck a pedestrian who was walking along the I-27 access road just north of the business.

According to the initial investigation, the pedestrian was the same individual officers had been dispatched to check on. Officers immediately began providing medical aid until EMS arrived.

The man was transported to University Medical Center with serious injuries. The officer involved sustained minor injuries.
