A fatal hit-and-run collision can leave a family grieving while also waiting for answers about who was responsible and how the crash occurred.
Our thoughts are with the loved ones of the pedestrian who died after this Florin Road collision, as well as with everyone affected by the loss.
Hit-and-run crashes can be especially difficult because the investigation may continue for days or weeks while authorities work to identify the vehicle and driver involved.
In these situations, investigators may rely on dashcam footage, surveillance video, traffic cameras, witness statements, vehicle debris, and physical evidence recovered from the roadway.
At Sweet Lawyers, we understand how painful and frustrating this period of uncertainty can be for a grieving family.
In addition to coping with an unexpected death, relatives may have to manage medical expenses, funeral costs, insurance matters, lost income, and communication with law enforcement.
When a driver leaves the scene of a fatal collision, surviving family members may also have questions about whether compensation may still be available if the driver has not yet been identified.
Depending on the facts and applicable insurance coverage, different legal issues may need to be explored. An experienced wrongful death attorney can review the available information and help families understand what options may exist.
Preserving evidence can also be important. Families may benefit from keeping copies of police reports, medical records, insurance correspondence, photographs, witness information, and receipts for expenses related to the loss.
If there is potential video footage from nearby businesses, homes, or other motorists, timely investigation may also help preserve information before it is overwritten or lost.
