HOUSTON, TX (September 5, 2026)– A pedestrian died after a vehicle struck him Friday night near Cullen Boulevard and Bellfort Avenue, according to the Houston Police Department.

The collision happened at approximately 9:46 p.m.

Police said the man was crossing Cullen Boulevard outside a marked crosswalk when he entered an active traffic lane. A northbound vehicle then struck him.

Emergency responders transported the critically injured pedestrian to Ben Taub Hospital. Despite life-saving efforts, he later died from his injuries.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said.

Authorities subsequently arrested the driver on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and examining whether speed or other circumstances may have contributed to the fatal collision.
