Driver Arrested After Stolen Car Chase on 401 West Inyo Avenue in Tulare

Tulare, CA (August 14, 2025) – Three people sustained injuries in a crash on  401 West Inyo Avenue.

Authorities have released new information about the driver accused of crashing into a Tulare church last month, leaving the building destroyed.

On July 13, a Tulare patrol officer received an alert about a possibly stolen vehicle. Before the officer could confirm the information with dispatch, the vehicle had already disappeared from view.

After searching the area, the officer located the vehicle with a single occupant in the driver’s seat and attempted a traffic stop.

The driver initially moved at a slow pace but then accelerated, ignoring posted signs and initiating a pursuit.

During the chase, the suspect crashed into another vehicle. The impact of that crash caused a pedestrian to be struck before the suspect’s vehicle finally came to a stop inside a church located at 401 W. Inyo Avenue

The crash caused catastrophic damage to the church structure.

Pastor Richard Wade, who leads the church, said he was at home when he received the call that a car had driven into the building.

His wife, Sylvia Wade, expressed relief that no one was inside during the crash. “From what we saw when we got here, the car being inside the building — I don’t think we would have survived,” she said.

Emergency responders transported the suspect, the other driver involved in the crash, and the pedestrian to a nearby hospital.

Once medically cleared, officers booked the suspect into the county jail.

Police continue to investigate the incident, which resulted in significant property damage, injuries, and an entire place of worship left in ruins.
