CHP Investigates Fatal Crash on the 40 Freeway in Barstow

BARSTOW, CA (December 31, 2025) – A pedestrian died in a crash on the 40 Freeway involving a big rig on New Year’s Eve.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision was first reported shortly before 9:15 p.m. 

Initial reports indicated that the individual appeared to be lying in the roadway when they were struck by the passing semi-truck. 

Paramedics arrived quickly but pronounced the pedestrian deceased at the scene.

The San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office responded to assist in the investigation, and one of two traffic lanes remained closed into the early hours of Thursday morning as authorities worked to determine the cause and circumstances of the crash.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been released pending family notification. 

No additional details have been disclosed at this time.
