Police Investigate Fatal Auto-Pedestrian Crash on East Marginal Way South in Seattle

Seattle, WA (January 4, 2025) – A female pedestrian died in a crash on East Marginal Way South.

Seattle police are actively investigating a fatal crash that occurred early Saturday morning in the SODO neighborhood. 

Shortly before 5 a.m., officers responded to a report of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle on East Marginal Way South near South Orcas Street.

When officers arrived, they found a woman critically injured after being struck by a northbound sedan. 

Despite immediate first aid efforts at the scene, she was pronounced dead. 

Investigators determined the woman had been walking in traffic lanes without using a pedestrian crossing when the collision occurred.

The sedan’s driver stayed at the scene and fully cooperated with authorities.

 A Drug Recognition Expert evaluated the driver and found no evidence of impairment, according to police.

The crash initially closed all northbound lanes from South Mead Street to South Orcas Street, but those lanes have since reopened.
