Police Investigate Fatal Crash on South Congress Avenue in Austin

AUSTIN, TX (June 17, 2026)— Austin police are working to identify a pedestrian who died in a crash on South Congress Avenue after a vehicle struck him Tuesday night.

Officers responded to the crash just south of Sheraton Avenue at 10:22 p.m. after receiving reports of a collision involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian.

Austin Police Department officers and Austin Fire Department personnel attempted life-saving measures on the injured man. 

Despite their efforts, authorities pronounced him dead at the scene.

The driver stayed at the crash site and cooperated with investigators.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision. 

Officials said this incident marks Austin’s 40th fatal crash of 2026, bringing the city’s traffic death toll to 40.
