Troopers Search for Suspect Driver in Castro Valley Deadly Crash

Castro Valley, CA (February 28, 2026) – A pedestrian was fatally injured following a hit-and-run crash on I-580 Wednesday night.

The deadly collision happened at 9:21 p.m. on the eastbound freeway, east of Center Street.

Investigators said the pedestrian ran onto the roadway and was hit by vehicles.

The driver of the big rig driver stayed and cooperated with the authorities, while the driver of the white SUV fled the scene.
