Police Investigate Fatal Crash on 5 Freeway in Burbank

Burbank, CA (September 27, 2025) – A pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle Saturday night on a crash on 5 Freeway.

The crash occurred just before 7:10 p.m. in the southbound lanes near Verdugo Avenue. 

Officers said several drivers stopped to assist the pedestrian, including one who positioned their car to shield the victim from oncoming traffic.

Paramedics pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity.

Investigators believe the pedestrian may have been attempting to run across the freeway when the collision occurred.

CHP issued a SigAlert at 7:40 p.m. for the HOV lane and lanes 1 and 2. Crews reopened all lanes shortly before 10 p.m.

Aerial footage showed traffic stretching back for miles, with some vehicles diverted via Verdugo Avenue.
