Police Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Crash on Interstate 25 in Riverside

RIVERSIDE, CA (May 15, 2026)— A man died Friday morning after one or more vehicles struck him in a crash on Interstate 25 in downtown Riverside.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal collision happened shortly after 7 a.m. at the transition from southbound Interstate 215 to westbound Highway 91.

CHP said a pedestrian was hit, possibly by both a tractor-trailer and a sedan. Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the crash.

Riverside Fire Department crews arrived within minutes and pronounced the man dead at the scene. Officials have not yet confirmed his identity.

No other injuries were reported.

CHP officers shut down the entire transition bridge while investigators examined the scene. The transition partially reopened around 10 a.m. A SigAlert was issued at 7:45 a.m. because of heavy traffic caused by the closure. As of 11 a.m., the alert remained active due to the ongoing partial shutdown.

The interchange serves as a major traffic route through the Riverside metropolitan area.
