40-Year-Old Man Dead After Crash on Interstate 35 in Kansas City

Kansas City, MO (February 26, 2026) – A 40-year-old man died in a crash on Interstate 35 at Interstate 435 on Thursday night.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a Kia Optima was traveling northbound on I-35 around 8:20 p.m. when a man walked onto the roadway. 

A 21-year-old woman was driving the Kia when her vehicle struck the pedestrian.

Emergency medical services responded to the scene and pronounced the man dead. 

Authorities identified the victim as a 40-year-old man from Bates City. Officials have not released his name at this time.

The driver of the Kia remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. 

Investigators closed northbound I-35 for several hours while they examined the crash site and gathered evidence. 

Crews later reopened the interstate after completing their initial investigation.

The circumstances surrounding the pedestrian’s presence on the roadway remain under investigation.
