Driver Suffering Medical Emergency Caused Fatal Crash on Rosecrans Avenue in Downey

Downey, CA (October 11, 2025) – A tragic pedestrian crash on Rosecrans Avenue claimed the life of a man around 10:00 p.m. Saturday, according to Downey Police and Fire Departments.

Authorities report that the pedestrian was struck by a driver who had experienced a medical emergency—reportedly related to low blood pressure—and lost control of his vehicle. Witnesses immediately rushed to help the victim, performing CPR in the street.

Downey Police officers and firefighters arrived quickly and assisted with CPR efforts, but after approximately 25 minutes, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

According to reports from the scene, the driver does not possess a California driver’s license or U.S. citizenship. 

His sister, who arrived shortly after with a soda, confirmed his medical condition. After undergoing a sobriety test, the driver was released into his sister’s custody.

Rosecrans Avenue was closed in both directions west of Lakewood Boulevard for several hours during the investigation.

The case remains under review by local authorities.
