Suspected DUI Driver Arrested After Crashing Into CHP Patrol Vehicle in Madera

Madera, CA (February 11, 2026) — 21-year-old Pedro Cruz Lopez of Madera, suspected of impaired driving crashed into a California Highway Patrol vehicle in Madera on Saturday evening, leading to a DUI arrest.

Authorities, say that the collision happened on Madera Avenue, south of Gateway Drive, as a CHP officer traveled southbound. At the same time, a Honda Accord headed northbound when the driver abruptly turned left toward a parking lot and crossed into the officer’s lane.

The Honda struck the left front portion of the patrol vehicle. After the crash, two passengers riding in the Honda ran from the scene and were not located.

Officers determined Lopez was under the influence of alcohol and took him into custody on a DUI charge. Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
