NTSB Investigates Fatal Plane Crash Near Midwest National Air Center in Clay County

Clay County, MO (August 2, 2025) – Two people on board died in a plane crash near Northeast 140th Street and Rhodus Road.

A small airplane crashed Wednesday just before noon in Clay County, near Northeast 140th Street and Rhodus Road, as it attempted to land at the Midwest National Air Center.

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the Cessna C340 originated from an airport near the St. Louis area. 

When deputies arrived at the scene, they found the aircraft engulfed in flames in a nearby soybean field. Tragically, both individuals on board died in the crash.

Authorities immediately closed air traffic at the Midwest National Air Center, and the closure will remain in effect until 5 p.m. as the investigation continues.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office has already notified the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). 

The NTSB will take over the investigation to determine what caused the fatal incident.
