All 11 Survive After Kenmore Air Floatplane Crashes Near Sucia Island

San Juan County, WA (July 25, 2026) — A frightening crash near Sucia Island on Thursday evening, left four people injured but no fatalities.

A Kenmore Air floatplane carrying 11 people crashed around 5:15 p.m. as the aircraft attempted an emergency landing north of Orcas Island. After touching down, the floatplane caught fire and came to rest on rocks along the shoreline.

Emergency crews, including the U.S. Coast Guard, the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office, and Orcas Island Fire and Rescue, responded quickly and rescued everyone from the water.

Passengers suffered injuries ranging from cuts and broken bones to head trauma. One person was initially listed in critical condition, while the others received treatment at nearby hospitals. Several patients were later discharged, and two passengers in their 20s were transferred to Harborview Medical Center in satisfactory condition. The pilot was also taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Authorities have not released the identities of those on board. Investigators are working to determine what caused the emergency landing and subsequent crash. Meanwhile, Kenmore Air canceled all scheduled flights the following day to focus on supporting passengers, crew members, and their families.
