Springs, CO (February 13, 2026) – Four people died after a plane crash on Emerald Mountain early Friday near Steamboat Springs, according to the Routt County Sheriff’s Office.

The Federal Aviation Administration reported that the crash happened around 12:20 a.m. on the south-facing side of Emerald Mountain, just west of town.

Sheriff’s officials recovered all four bodies and said they expected to notify the victims’ families later Friday.

Authorities closed off the crash site with yellow tape and asked the public to stay away from the area.

Investigators from the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board planned to arrive at the scene on Friday afternoon.

The NTSB identified the aircraft as an Epic Aircraft E1000. FAA registration records linked the plane’s registration number to an aviation company based in Tennessee.

Public flight-tracking data from ADS-B Exchange showed the plane traveling west across Colorado before changing direction—turning south, continuing west, then turning north.

The data indicated the aircraft crashed while descending toward Steamboat Springs Airport at roughly 8,000 feet.

Emerald Mountain sits immediately west of Steamboat Springs, about 165 miles northwest of Denver.
