2 People Hospitalized After Crash on John Muir Drive in San Francisco

San Francisco, CA (April 17, 2026) – Two people sustained injuries in a police pursuit crash on John Muir Drive on Thursday night.

A driver fleeing police in a stolen car crashed head-on into a Muni bus, according to the San Francisco Fire Department.

The crash happened at about 10:18 p.m. near 595 John Muir Drive on the south side of Lake Merced.

Fire officials said the male driver of the stolen car suffered moderate to major injuries in the collision. 

Rescue crews used the Jaws of Life to extricate him from the wreckage before transporting him to a hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Muni bus also suffered injuries in the crash. 

According to the San Francisco Fire Department, the bus operator was taken to a hospital with minor injuries for further evaluation.

Authorities have not yet said whether the bus was carrying any passengers at the time of the collision.

Further details about the police pursuit were not immediately available.
