Pursuit Crash on Imperial Avenue Injures Woman [San Diego, CA]

San Diego, CA (August 30, 2026) — A 66-year-old woman suffered life-threatening injuries Monday after a horrific crash on Imperial Avenue; a driver fleeing San Diego police crashed head-on into her vehicle in the O’Farrell neighborhood.

The crash happened around 4:12 p.m. on Imperial Avenue after Central Division officers pursued a 20-year-old man driving a Jeep Cherokee eastbound. During the pursuit, the suspect entered westbound lanes, prompting officers to end the ground chase while an air unit continued tracking him.

Shortly afterward, the Jeep collided head-on with an eastbound Toyota Camry in the 6400 block of Imperial Avenue. The suspect fled on foot, but officers quickly arrested him.

Paramedics transported the 66-year-old Toyota passenger to a hospital, where she underwent surgery for perforated organs. Her injuries remained life-threatening. The Toyota’s 61-year-old driver suffered a fractured rib, while the suspect reported head pain.

Police said drugs and alcohol did not contribute to the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
