Rafael Torres of Santa Ana Arrested in Newport Beach Hit-and-Run Crash [Newport Beach, CA]

Newport Beach, CA (October 3, 2025) – The authorities arrested Rafael Torres, 28, of Santa Ana, following a Newport Beach hit-and-run crash Monday.

Troopers said a 48-year-old woman, of Newport Beach, was hit by a vehicle whose driver fled right after the impact. 

The woman was rushed to a hospital in critical but stable condition.

At about 4:15 p.m. the following day, the authorities conducting surveillance found the suspect vehicle near McFadden Avenue and Harbor Boulevard in Santa Ana. 

Police initiated a traffic stop and the occupants were detained.

According to the officers, pieces of evidence, witness statements, and collision damage on the vehicle, connected it and one of its passengers to the hit-and-run collision.

The authorities arrested the driver, Rafael Torres, on suspicion of felony hit-and-run resulting in injury. They booked him into the Newport Beach Jail.

Moreover, the Newport Beach Police Department is asking anyone who witnessed the fatal crash to contact Traffic Investigator Laverty at 949-644-3747.
