El Paso Deputies Arrest Suspect in Injury Hit-and-Run Crash

El Paso, TX (June 13, 2025) — El Paso County deputies arrested 40-year-old Ramon Pena in connection with a hit-and-run crash on Desert Meadows Drive that injured several people.

The collision happened around 6:17 p.m. on June 10 near Desert Meadows Drive and Montana Avenue. Investigators said the driver of a black Dodge Ram struck another vehicle and left the scene without stopping to provide assistance or exchange information.

During the investigation, deputies reviewed evidence and tracked the suspected vehicle to a residence on Blaeu Drive. Authorities obtained a search warrant, seized the pickup, and collected additional evidence, including surveillance footage that allegedly showed the vehicle arriving at the home shortly after the crash.

Investigators identified the driver as Pena and obtained an arrest warrant charging him with a collision involving damage to a vehicle. Deputies later located and arrested Pena at a residence on Hiawatha Drive without incident.

Authorities also charged Pena with violating a court-issued protective order after determining he was not permitted to be at that location. He was booked into the El Paso County Downtown Detention Facility.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Do The Right Thing. Stay. Help. Take Responsibility.

A hit-and-run is not just a crime, but a devastating act of cowardice leaving victims injured, scared, and sometimes fighting for their lives. If you’re involved in a traffic accident, stop immediately. Call 911. Help those who are hurt.

Remember that fleeing the scene only worsens the situation and carries serious legal consequences, including felony charges. Victims deserve accountability and justice.

Leaving the scene of a crash can delay medical assistance for injured victims and may result in serious criminal consequences. Drivers involved in a collision should remain at the scene, provide required information, and cooperate with emergency responders and law enforcement.

Steps to Take When You’ve Been in a Car Accident

If you get into a traffic accident, it can be a frightening situation and many people do not know what to do afterwards, which may have a big impact on your safety as well as your rights.

First, assess yourself and others for injuries. If anyone is hurt, call 911 immediately. If you can move your vehicle, do so in a safe location and put on your hazard lights to warn other drivers. Exchange details with the other driver, such as names, numbers, insurance company information, and license plate numbers. (And if there are witnesses nearby, try to get their information, too.)

Photograph the scene, damage to the vehicles, and any injuries. If the damage appears to be minor, document everything anyway.

Then get medical care — even if you feel fine. Some injuries can have a delayed presentation. Lastly, reach out to a seasoned personal injury lawyer, such as Sweet Lawyers. They’ll explain your legal rights and navigate the insurance claims process, so you can focus on what’s most important.

Those minutes after a crash are critical. Staying calm, acting swiftly and figuring out what kind of aid is available could help protect your health, your finances and your future.
