Randal Knerl Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash on Tomball Parkway [Houston, TX]

Houston, TX (November 20, 2025) — Houston police are investigating a deadly hit-and-run crash that left 66-year-old Randal Knerl dead early Sunday morning on the 17100 block of Tomball Parkway.

Around 1:15 a.m., officers found a red Indian motorcycle lying in the middle of the freeway with Knerl unresponsive nearby. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

A short distance south of the crash, officers discovered a Cat excavator off the roadway. The machine was still running and showed rear-end damage consistent with debris found at the scene. Investigators believe the excavator was traveling in the middle of the roadway when Knerl’s motorcycle struck it. The operator of the excavator left the area before police arrived.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the excavator operator to contact the HPD Hit and Run Unit or report anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
