Wrong-Way Driver Kills 32-Year-Old in I-215 Head-On Crash in Riverside

Riverside, CA (January 15, 2025) — Early Wednesday, a wrong-way driver suspected of impairment caused a deadly collision on Interstate 215, killing Raulder Sotelo of Riverside.

According to authorities, the crash happened around 12:25 a.m. on the southbound lanes of I-215, just north of Central Avenue.

California Highway Patrol officers responded after receiving reports that a Mitsubishi Galant had entered the freeway traveling northbound in the southbound lanes near Cactus Avenue in Moreno Valley.

As officers attempted to locate the vehicle, the Mitsubishi continued driving the wrong way and nearly struck multiple cars. Near Central Avenue, it collided head-on with a Toyota Camry.

Riverside Fire Department paramedics arrived within minutes and pronounced the Toyota’s driver, Raulder Sotelo of Riverside, dead at the scene. The Mitsubishi’s driver, a 20-year-old Moreno Valley resident, suffered major injuries and was transported to a regional trauma center.

Investigators believe alcohol or drugs may have contributed to the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
