Rickey and Bernadine Mariott Die in Tragic Head-On Crash on SH 36 [Comanche County, TX]

Comanche County, TX (September 9, 2026) — Rickey and Bernadine Mariott died in a head-on collision on State Highway 36 near FM 1476 in Comanche County.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a pickup truck was traveling south and attempted to pass several vehicles in a marked no-passing zone around 11:40 a.m. As the pickup and an oncoming SUV approached each other, both drivers moved onto the shoulder to avoid a collision before returning to the roadway. The vehicles then collided head-on in the northbound lane.

The pickup driver suffered minor injuries. The SUV driver and passenger, 75-year-old Rickey Mariott and 75-year-old Bernadine Mariott, both of Evant, died at the scene.

DPS continues to investigate the crash.
