Police Investigate Fatal Crash at Yale Avenue and Interstate 25 in Denver

DENVER, CO (November 28, 2025) — A tragic crash at Yale Avenue and Interstate 25 involving a fuel tanker left Rickey Swaniger, 56, dead, according to Denver Police.

The crash occurred around 12:45 p.m., involving only the fuel tanker, which spilled fuel onto the roadway. 

Authorities confirmed that one person was killed, but have not yet released the identity of the deceased or confirmed if the individual was the driver of the vehicle.

Due to the severity of the incident, Yale Avenue was closed in both directions near the I-25 interchange for several hours while first responders cleared the scene and conducted their preliminary investigation. 

The Yale Station on the RTD E Line was also closed, causing disruptions to commuter rail service.

Emergency crews worked to contain the hazardous fuel spill, and all roads have since reopened to traffic.
