Robert Owens Arrested in Fatal Pedestrian Crash Near Buena Vista Lagoon [Carlsbad, CA]

Carlsbad, CA (June 29, 2024) Early Friday morning, 41-year-old Robert Owens of Escondido was arrested after a man was killed in a pedestrian crash near Buena Vista Lagoon.

According to Carlsbad police, the fatal auto-pedestrian crash happened around 3:30 a.m. on the 2300 block of Rue Des Chateaux, near Buena Vista Lagoon.

Reports say that Owens fatally struck a male pedestrian, first responders arrived at the scene and found an injured man near the road. Despite efforts from the Oceanside Fire Department medics, the man ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead at the scene.

Officials say that Owens fled the scene, and was apprehended on the 700 block of Raintree Drive. Owens and a passenger on the vehicle were detained, Owens was booked into Vista Detention Facility.

Authorities are investigating the fatal auto-pedestrian crash and have not released additional information at this time.
