Robert Vanzant Seriously Hurt in Fatal Wrong-Way Crash on SH 176 [Andrews County, TX]

Andrews County, TX (May 14, 2024) On Friday morning, 67-year-old Robert Vanzant of Andrews was seriously injured in a wrong-way crash on Highway 176 that killed 29-year-old Julio Cesar Torres.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the fatal 2-vehicle crash happened at about 7:05 a.m. on SH 176 at Mile Marker 240.

Reports say that Torres was driving an eastbound 2012 Cadillac Escalade that veered off the road, and went over the opposing lane, and collided with a westbound 2019 GMC Sierra, driven by Vanzant.

Officials say that Torres was not wearing his seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene, while Vanzant suffered critical injuries and was rushed to the University Medical Center in Lubbock.

DPS is investigating the fatal 2-vehicle crash.
