Roberto Covarrubian Navarro Hurt in Horrific Crash on Interstate 5 [Stanislaus County, CA]

Stanislaus County, CA (June 24, 2025) — A suspected DUI driver triggered a series of crashes late at night in Stanislaus County, leaving 32-year-old Roberto Covarrubian Navarro of Fresno with major injuries and several others hurt.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident began around 11:50 p.m. when 57-year-old Nancy Cortes Flores of Gustine was driving a Honda sedan at a high rate of speed and struck the rear of a Chevrolet Equinox driven by Covarrubian Navarro.

Following the collision, Flores and her passenger exited the Honda, which remained disabled in the left lane. Shortly afterward, a Toyota Camry crashed into the abandoned sedan. Authorities did not immediately confirm whether the Camry driver suffered injuries.

Around midnight, a Nissan SUV also collided with the Honda. All five occupants of the SUV reported minor injuries and were transported to local hospitals for evaluation and treatment.

About 14 minutes later, a Honda Pilot attempted to avoid the disabled vehicle but struck Covarrubian Navarro, who was outside following the initial crash. The impact left him with major injuries, and emergency crews transported him to a nearby hospital. His current condition has not been released.

To prevent additional collisions, Caltrans closed the roadway while investigators worked at the scene for approximately five hours.

Authorities arrested Cortes Flores on suspicion of driving under the influence and booked her into the Stanislaus County Jail.
