Bovina Man Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash on US 70

Bovina, NM (December 18, 2025) — 24-year-old Rogelio Velasquez of Bovina lost his life early Tuesday morning following a multi-vehicle crash at US 70 and Curry Road 4 in Curry County.

Investigators said Velasquez pulled into the path of a southbound Chevrolet pickup driven by a 19-year-old man from Copperas Cove, Texas. The initial collision ejected Velasquez from his vehicle, a white Hyundai.

Afterward, a passing vehicle struck Velasquez as he lay in the roadway and continued driving. Officials are still working to identify and locate that vehicle. A fourth vehicle, driven by a 77-year-old woman from Minnesota, then struck the Hyundai while attempting to avoid the crash.

Velasquez was transported to Plains Regional Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries. The crash occurred around 6 a.m. Tuesday.

The Curry County Sheriff’s Department and New Mexico State Police continue to investigate the incident.
