According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened shortly before 7 p.m. on 230th Street east of Jasmine Road, about two miles north of Maryville. A 19-year-old man from Frakes, Kentucky, was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado when he lost control, veered off the south side of the road, and the pickup overturned in a field.

The driver sustained minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Mosaic Life Care in Maryville. His passenger, a 32-year-old man from Red Oak, suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a hospital in St. Joseph.

Investigators said neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The pickup was declared a total loss and towed from the scene. The Nodaway County Sheriff’s Department and Nodaway County Ambulance assisted with the response.

Let Us Practice Defensive Driving

Did you know there are plenty of ways to practice safe, defensive driving? Doing them will make you safe from accidents.

Practicing safe, defensive driving is crucial because it reduces the risk of accidents and helps protect you and other drivers on the road. Following traffic rules, maintaining a safe distance, and being aware of your surroundings can significantly reduce the likelihood of accidents and ensure a safer driving experience.

Wearing a seatbelt is one of the simplest ways to reduce the risk of serious injury in a crash. Drivers should also maintain safe speeds and stay focused behind the wheel to help prevent rollover accidents.

File a Personal Injury Claim in Case of Traffic Collision

A personal injury claim following a traffic collision is a legal process that allows an injured party to seek compensation for physical, emotional, and financial harm caused by the accident. These claims arise when a driver’s negligence, recklessness, or intentional actions lead to an accident resulting in injuries.

The first step in pursuing a personal injury claim is to establish fault. This normally involves gathering evidence such as police reports, witness statements, traffic camera footage, and photographs of the accident scene. A skilled attorney from Sweet Lawyers can help establish who was responsible for the accident, which is, indeed, necessary for determining liability.

Once fault is established, the injured party can then pursue compensation for damages, which may include but are not limited to medical expenses, lost wages, property damage, and pain and suffering. Consequently, medical documentation and witnesses’ testimonies are essential for proving the extent of the injuries and their impact on the victim’s life.

Meanwhile, it’s important to note that the statute of limitations, or the time frame within which a personal injury claim must be filed, varies by state. Meaning if a claim is not filed within this window, the victim and the family of the victim may lose the right to seek compensation.

Know that a personal injury claim may be complex, but it offers an essential avenue that helps the victims to recover damages and hold negligent drivers accountable.
