85-Year-Old Passenger Airlifted in Rollover Accident on I-5
Bellingham, WA (July 8, 2025) – Two people were injured in a rollover crash on northbound I-5 Saturday night.
Around 8:50 p.m. on July 5, emergency crews responded near the Nulle Road interchange after a 2011 Mercedes-Benz GLK 350 veered off the road, overturned, and came to rest on its side in nearby bushes.
The Washington State Patrol reported that the 62-year-old driver from British Columbia had fallen asleep behind the wheel.
Medics transported the driver by ambulance to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center. The 85-year-old passenger, also from British Columbia, sustained more serious injuries and was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Both occupants were reportedly wearing seatbelts at the time. Authorities closed the northbound lanes at Nulle Road until about 1:45 a.m. while crews responded to the scene and cleared the wreckage.
High-speed crashes can occur in the blink of an eye, but so many are preventable with small, intelligent decisions. Pay attention, don’t get distracted (say, by texting) and never drive after drinking. As ever – obey speed limits, buckle up and keep plenty of room between yourself and other vehicles. These are small enough measures to save lives — including your own.
We can all take steps to help keep our roads safe for ourselves, our families and our communities.
Fatigue behind the wheel can have serious consequences. If you’re feeling drowsy, pull over and rest. Sweet Lawyers reminds all drivers to prioritize safety—for yourself, your passengers, and others on the road.
What Should You Do When Injured in Hit-and-Run Collision?
If you are injured in a hit-and-run collision, your safety and health come first. Call 911 immediately to report the crash and request medical help. If you are able, try to remember and record any details about the fleeing vehicle—such as the make, model, color, or license plate number. Also, take photos of the scene, your injuries, and any vehicle damage. Gather contact information from any witnesses who saw the crash.
Once you’ve received medical attention, report the incident to the police and get a copy of the report for your records. Notify your insurance company about the hit-and-run as soon as possible; your policy may include uninsured motorist coverage that can help with medical costs and vehicle repairs.
Most importantly, hire Sweet Lawyers’ personal injury attorney. They can help investigate the incident, protect your rights, and work to get you compensation for your injuries, lost wages, and other damages.
